Better organization and sorting of parts in the VAB/SPH menus

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been suggested many times, in general, and is probably somewhere on the bucket-list at Squad. But I have some specifics to include, so I thought I'd go ahead and write a "suggestion" post anyway.

In the VAB/SPH part menus, of course everything is thrown together without a meaningful sorting order, and some tabs contain many more parts than others. It's usually tolerable in a stock installation, but when you start adding parts mods, it becomes a huge mess.

So there are several ideas:

1. Split fuel & engines into separate categories, as both are becoming quite numerous.

2. Sub-categories. For instance, electrical, vs docking, vs wheels, vs general utility. Sub-categories based diameter, etc.

3. Sorting. For instance, sort first by type (group the decouplers together, etc). Then, for more granularity, sort by size (mass would be OK).

As it is right now, it would appear that the parts are sorted first by mod group, then by internal ID name.

Additionally, something that I think would also help, and would make sense (especially if not creating new categories):

4. Move the jet fuel/engine parts to aerodynamics, where the air intakes are already located.

(sorry if this has already been talked to death. Quick googling turned up nothing, however)

Thoughts? Comments?

Filter by diameter probably wouldn't satisfy every need, but it would go a long, long way indeed.

So much so that I'd say they should implement it as a stop-gap measure even if, no, especially when they won't get around to do it properly for the time being.

Id like to see monoprop tanks in the control tab with the RCS ports, and prolly the mono engine as well. Also it would be nice if the most used parts were filtered to the top of the tab.

Yeah, moving the monoprop stuff to the control tab would make a lot of sense. Anything that really needs to be used together being grouped into the same tab makes sense, if it helps reduce the amount of stuff in one of the biggest current tabs.
