deleting skybox

Less CPU usage plus that's how it looks like from low earth orbit

Already got texture replacer but don't know how to install skyboxes

Hi there,

Not sure if texture replacer unloads the SQUAD textures when it replaces them, so it won't improve memory, but may help slightly with CPU.

In "GameData > TextureReplacer > Default" place 6 pure black 2048x2048 PNG images, named as:

GalaxyTex_PositiveZ

GalaxyTex_PositiveY

GalaxyTex_PositiveX

GalaxyTex_NegativeZ

GalaxyTex_NegativeY

GalaxyTex_NegativeX

As Albert says, if your're doing this primarily for aesthetics rather than CPU reduction, then a better effect can be found with the DOE plugin as it has a star field dimming effect when the camera looks at a bright object.

The skybox is 6 files placed in the folder GameData\TextureReplacer\Default\

The files are:

GalaxyTex_NegativeX

GalaxyTex_NegativeY

GalaxyTex_NegativeZ

GalaxyTex_PositiveX

GalaxyTex_PositiveY

GalaxyTex_PositiveZ

They can be .png, .jpg, or .tga files. I have one of the busy skyboxes so my files are each 4096x4096 size. If you just want ink black, then you should be able to use much smaller resolution.

Seriously? No. Even the Hubble space telescope is on low earth orbit, space isn't magically pitch black up there... You can't see stars in most videos/pictures from ISS for an example because they're also showing the sun-lit earth and ofc exposed accordingly. Pics that are not exposed for daytime earth do show stars.

note that doing this won't save any CPU/GPU as the texture will be just as big and will need to be sampled either way
