Dark Colours not Correctly Showing

Recommended Posts

I have this issue where on my monitor dark colours seem to not fade properly. In the screen shot, the red circle shows an area where the colours do not fade together. The result is an image with clear contrasts in shades where there shouldn't be.

I have this issue in other games and i think it is just my monitor. I am not sure if other people see this but is there any way i can fix this. I have tried adjusting the gamma but it does not seem to work.

Also in the dark i can not see my ship at all i and i can only see the silhouette against the background. Turning up the gamma fixes this but it increases the contrast in dark colours.

Any ideas?

For better view of your ship in the dark rotate camera in the way that your ship would be in the stars background. The best options is to install lights on the ship.

I have no idea what is the issue with the "dark". Isn't that Milky Way or polar lights or whatever mod you use?

I'm not sure how to explain it.

It's like viewing an image of something dark in a low resolution. The dark colours just don't mix together properly and you can see the transitions between the colours too clearly.

it's not the mod, it happened with the stock background also, I thought the mod would fix it but it didn't.

Yes, I agree that it sounds like a monitor adjustment or video card adjustment issue. I also agree that your brightness and contrast settings are out of whack. Especially if you fiddled with them to see into dark places. If you see high gradients, your contrast is probably way too high. Just make sure to adjust the settings on your monitor AND video card. Many video cards and monitors also have gamma values. I recommend you reset the settings both, then calibrate one at a time.

As for dark ships, space is dark, you aren't going to see things without lights. I too put the brighter portions of the night sky in the background and use silhouette if I need to dock or do other maneuvers. If you find yourself in the dark for too long, you can also raise the orbit (if you don't want or can't add lights).

Cheers,

Alternatively, and I want to stress this is a VERY hackish solution, you can use Ambient Light Adjustment mod. I'm telling you about this because you should know it's available, but it's made for youtubers and streamers so their video isn't all black, not general game play and it's pretty much what I would consider cheating and it ruins the immersion. Never the less, that is my opinion and regardless of my opinion, you should know it exists.
