Since when do multiple engines gimbal to create roll?!?

Recommended Posts

I was launching a career Duna science harvester when I realized that the capsule alone on the launcher could not possibly roll the entire craft like it was. I had no RCS or Reaction Wheels (Which came to haunt me when the Gyro Kraken decided to focus it's powers on the craft for the ENTIRE MISSION ). I snapped this screenshot:

Kind of hard to see, but the engines are gimballing to roll the craft. I've never noticed this before.

When was this added?

Also noteworthy is that the four-nozzle 3.75m engine and the RAPIER can provide roll authority with a single engine due to their multiple-nozzle design, not sure about the LFB.

Seems that it can't. Not sure why not since two gimballing engines on a bicoupler can.

maybe they are modeled as a single engine rather than 4 individual engines?

The LFB is the 2 engined one. The 4 engined S3 KS-25x4 Engine Cluster can control roll, but the LFB KR-1x2 can't. the uncertainty is why Squad chose not to give it the option when they did the other multi nozzeled gimballed engines.
