That's actually very well explained. Thank you! Makes sense. As to the landing, a gentle periapsis dip into the atmosphere to lower the apoapsis a bit for an orbit or two might help with the steepness of the descent too.

Now I just need to design the lander, the station and the Kerbin-Duna passenger ferry. :-)
