Bug on EVA, black screen

Was trying the carrier play and working the contracts. I made a sub orbital flights, getting a little eva science landed in the north and ran some goo containters and made the eva and dropped jeb to the ground and I got a black screen with the counters blacked out. I tried to switch to map mode but still had the black screen, still got the messages about switching screen and focus kerbin , focus jeb ect

I went out of the game and rebooted and jeb is listed as missing in action (dead I guess) and my ship is no longer on the map but I didn't recover it.

Any idea? I am thinking jeb died ont he fall but a bug caused the black screen.

Yeah, this is a known problem although exactly what's causing it is still a mystery. If you figure out how to make it happen repeatedly, please let us know!

Unfortunately what you did is about the only way you can recover. Usually you can wait a bit and the kerbal with automatically respawn. If not, there's some save file editing you can do to get Jeb back.

thanks for the quick reply .

I played KSP for a while now and never had this happen before. end result was me doing a log out/log in with the game and I was able to play. Jeb was dead, ( listed as missing but he did respawn) and my ship was lost. no file nothing at all.

Only thing I can add was, I was trying contracts and the ship jeb was flying had parts from a previous contract, a landing gear assembly, a part that I had not researched but was offered a contract to test it.

the ship has a warning ****Contains locked or invalid parts ***** debug is not flagging it as a problem so I do not know...

If I can reproduce it it will let you know.
