Intro, and a question

Hello, everyone.

Vulpes Abnocto here. For brevity, feel free to call me Vulpes, VA, or Fox.

I discovered KSP last week and was immediately floored by the concept and execution of the game. I\'ve played for a handful of hours and loved every minute.

But there is a problem with my PC.

The video card I\'m currently using cannot handle the game entirely.

My rockets are always completely black, and the sky is always pink.

(This PC was put together with spare parts, so please don\'t laugh. I\'m aware of how bad the specifications are. )

Video card: GeForce MX 440 AGP(x8)

I need to know what AGP video cards will allow me to experience KSP in its full glory.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

That sounds like a card that can only do shader model 1.0? (Also, GeForce 4 MX? I don\'t suppose that there\'s any chance you have a GeForce 3 lying around instead? >_>)

A shader 2.0 capable card (I think most GeForce FX or ATI 9xxx series) will make the game playable with smaller ships, though the ocean will be green.

To get the full graphical experience, you\'ll want a card that can do shader model 3.0, though I\'m unsure of what AGP cards are capable of that? Maybe a GeForce 6 of some sort?

edit: welcome! ^^;;

Thank you Capt\'n Skunky and UmbralRaptor,

I\'m very glad to be a part of this community.

A GeForce3? Would that really be better in this instance?

I can look around but don\'t have high confidence in finding that particular sort of card without shelling out money.

I\'ve tapped a couple of friends to try and find a better video card capable of shader versions higher than 1.0.

Please wish me luck. I might need it.

I purchased a Geforce GTS460 for less than a hundred bucks months ago when my old graphics card died on me. It\'s not great, but plays this game (except an initial load issue when going from the VAB to the Launchpad) reasonably well, with only modest framerate issues sometimes.

A GeForce 3 is in fact better than a GeForce 4 MX (though it is not better than a GeForce 4 Ti). Though for this, you\'ll need at least a GeForce FX to get the green sea, and a GeForce 6 for the full colors. Is there any chance you can scavenge a computer with PCIe slots? It would make finding video cards that would work with it much easier.

UPDATE: Thank you again for your assistance.

I located a GeForce 6200 AGP for $65 and now my Horribly-Designed-Rockets-Of-Doom© look pretty darn good (if quite unsafe).

I also introduced my best friend to KSP this week. He seems to be far more serious about his creations.

Where\'s the fun in that? =P
