Crash on load to VAB

I'm having a weird issue where the game crashes almost immediately when I try to go to the VAB. This happens the first time I try to enter it after loading the game.

I'm not sure it makes a difference, but right before it crashes, it seems to load a glitched building, either it loads the VAB with all parts visible and all the windows open, or it loads the gui from the astronaut complex, but without anything in the windows. Then it crashes to desktop after a second or so.

I did a steam verify and deleted the last mod I installed, neither appeared to help. It was running fine last night, so it shouldn't have anything to do with the mods I had installed then, right?

ok, on consulting the known bugs thread I tried unchecking readonly on the KSP file, that appears to have worked, we'll see if it keeps working.

Edit: I was wrong, that didn't fix it, however I have a work around, if I enter the tracking station before going to the VAB it doesn't crash.
