Is it time for the Kerbals to get second names?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering about the community's opinion on this.

Do people like the fact that every Kerbal has the second name "Kerman", or would they prefer Kerbal surnames to get the same treatment their first names do, with two parts that get stuck together?

For what it's worth, I'd keep Jeb, Bill and Bob Kerman as they are, and then every subsequent Kerbal gets their own surname.

this is the kind of speech that breeds subversion inside the kerb-hive, the nest where kerbals are all bred from the same genes... giving the drones too much individuality might spur them to think unsanctioned thoughts...

....Yeah so until they add cities(if they ever do), then i imagine kerbals as an underground hive-minded civilization, who all only need one last name because they are too busy working the mines for ores to build rockets.

I've personally grown fond of the current Kerman moniker, and would prefer to keep things as-is. Besides, Kerbal naming schemes might not be intended to mirror that of humans, and so perhaps "Kerman" might merely be an honorific (similar to the -san appended to Japanese names).

Another precedent for single-word names for non-human species comes from Star Trek (e.g. Worf, son of Mogh).
