Cool but could you save D/V and payload capacity by just having the SSTO engines?

Thats why i switched from VTOL requirements on every single SSTO back to only having VTOL on pure atmospheric fighters. Its anywhere from 1-5 tons of engines you have 0 use for outside of a gimmick. VTOL is fun and cool, but it really isnt worth it for anything interplanetary......
