The ability to see the total output and input

Recommended Posts

It would be incredibly awesome if it was possible for the stock game to include the following feature:

1. see the total energy out puts (solar panels, generators)

2. see the total amount of fuel units

3. see how much energy will be used in total e.g. 50 electricity per second or something like that

4. see how much fuel will be used in total e.g. 1500 at full throttle or something like that

All of these are CRUCIAL to see in the VAB/SPH, since it is incredibly hard to predict things like that.

As an example of how it could be done, Delta V calculations in mechjeb also give burn time - IE it'd tell you that you have 60 seconds of max throttle in the stage.

I second a display for electrical storage - I'd love a quick add-up to know if I've jammed enough batteries on my Ion lander. Doing that for solar panels can be hard though - the power they generate is sensitive to spacecraft orientation (I'm particularly looking at you, OX-STATs), distance to the sun and whether or not Kerbin is in the way.

Energy use would have to be broken down - most non-probe craft use next to nothing sitting still, but if you're running five ion drives while simultaneously using reaction wheels, processing a lab specimen, leaving the lights on, broadcasting science and microwaving a burrito you're going to get massively different numbers.

well, for example the electricity output can be simply calculated as in the best condition, e.g. 45/sec for the OX-STATs. That should make life easier. As of the usage thing, well that's more complicated. Since most parts have a specific number of what they need to run, like the Stayputnik needs 2/sec electrocharge or whatever it needs, the resource taking can be added up by using simple calculator mechanics.

Example:

1. Stayputnik needs 2/sec

2. The lights in Mk.2 pax fuselage consume .5/sec

3. Outside lights consume .5/sec

total consumption: 3/sec

same thing with the output - the total number in ideal conditions.

Should be pretty simple.
