Music and Tesla Coils

Okay, I am going to openly state 3 things. 1. I am a geeky nerdy kinda geek that loves science and all things nerdy. 2. I enjoy One Republics stuff. 3. I liked and still DO like the movie: Sorcerers Apprentice, dont hate me because I am that kinda geek lol.

Okay, gonna start off small. You guys are aware of this scene yes: (skip to about 50 seconds in for a short burst of music, then to 1 minute 19 seconds for the song Secrets by One Republic.

Okay, show of hands, how many of you think this scene is faked, or rather, that a tesla coil cannot do this? While, i will admit that SOME of the coils seen in this scene are 100% INCAPABLE of this feat, others in the scene are absolutely capable of it. You need a Solid State Tesla Coil, some serious electricity, and well, some serious engineering, and a few other bits and bobs to do this. btw, 100% dangerous and potentially lethal if you have less than a FIRM grasp of what you are doing.

I prove to you that, yes, this is possible, found this video a few years ago on youtube, but, yeah, this stuffs neat!

I know some of you are aware of musical solid state tesla coils, but, hey, never hurts to spread some awesome around right?

But someone can explain with detail how is achieve?

Lightning may have its own frequency that can go from 0 to 100khz. But this is a electromagnetic wave. Not a mechanical wave which result in sound.

The mechanical wave is produced by the shockwave produced when the air is heated and expands explosively.

But the questions are:

1: The sound depends of the electric arc long, or the intermitence between each arc. (I would said the second)

2: How do you make discharges to the air instead to earth, or how do you close the circuit?

3: What do you need to make multiple arcs from a single tesla coil each one following its own sound frequency?

Or maybe the sound is generated by a speacker and the electric arcs only follow the air disturbances?

What ArcAttack does as far as I understand is very rapidly switch the lightning bolts on and off. The frequency used to toggle the bolts determines the 'pitch'.

A little digging resulted in this.
