How can I turn down the graphics quality even mode?

This is kinda a funky question, but I would like to turn down the quality of all the parts and effects in the game. My copy of the game runs pretty slowly, even though my hardwares new-ish.

My question is: Can I turn down the model/texture quality (to the level of mat colors even) and disable/turn down the effects (shadows, trails, etc.) of the game.

Thanks!

There are quite a few options in the Graphics tab under Settings – that's the Settings in the main menu, not while you're playing the game. Some of them do require restarting KSP.

For textures in particular, you can lower the texture quality, but Active Texture Managment is better in most cases. If you get the not-basic version, it will automatically reduce most textures to 1/2 width and cache them for faster loading.

That said, since you have newish hardware, the problem may be phyics rather than graphics.

I believe there was a tweak guide floating around a while back. It had you reduce the water animations which caused a decent amount slowdowns. Other than that, Master Tao is right. Just turn everything down except physics.

I had an Intel Core 2 Duo and ran the game without too many problems as long as I kept part count down. So try to find a good tweak guide and follow what Tao said.
