Thermal imaging camera view of Falcon 9 first stage redirection and re-entry burns

One of my co-workers passed along a link to an article about how SpaceX is already helping NASA plan a Mars mission. The article includes a link to a cool video showing thermal imaging views of a Falcon 9 first stage's redirection and re-entry burns. The video was filmed from a NASA chase plane:

Would you happen to know what the scale on the right is measured in?

It seems to go up to at times to 16,000.

That should be temperature in Kevin, but 16000 seems a little high, even for rocket exhaust and first stage re-entry. Then again, IANARS! OTOH, there is a big, nonlinear jump at the end of the scale, so maybe there's a little uncertainty in that measurement.

It says at the beginning of the video:

Color Scale: MWIR sensor counts

so it's not any standard unit
