Career Suggestions

After a few failed attempts to start under hard difficulty I've gotten some good designs that have allowed me to pass most of the hump of hard difficulty in KSP career v0.25.

Have the first mission be a simple capsule that you use to get: a crew report, a surface sample from launchpad and EVA from launchpad. This gives you enough science to unlock tier 1 techs and then use those to build Explorer 1.

I always picked up all part tests that had either 'landed at Kerbin' or 'orbital, sub-orbital' trajectory requirements.

Doing the [simple Capsule] -> [Explorer 1] -> [Explorer 2] -> [Recovery 1] -> [Explorer 3 (Mun)] -> [Explorer 3(Minmus)] + all the part tests in between has given a nice reserve of both cash and science to allow the particularly challenging start to be aleviated.
