Aluminum as rocket fuel?

Don't forget that Al2O3 is not a molecular compound! It's not very good for making exhaust gas at all - you can split it in small particles at higher temperatures but it will also eat away most of the energy you were supposed to get!

SRB fuel has aluminium and organic polymers. Oxidizing Al produces high quantities of energy, but the exhaust gas is primarily the products of organic phase oxidation.
