Scale modelling

Has anyone assembled scaled models? How much time it takes? What do you do with them after?

Here's what my friend gave me as a birthday present. He's fond of modelling, buys scale models and builds the scenes for them, or buys such sets and glues them.

I wasn't doing this, but it's even more interesting. Non-experts hardly can make you a good gift in your field, but they can make great gifts in their fields.

It's dependent on the complexity of the model and whether or not it needs glue and separate paints (models will typically need glue, though).

The USS Enterprise model I finished over a year ago took me a week to complete as it needed completely painting and glueing, plus decal work, which is horrendously fiddly. However, it came out well enough (not as professionally as shown on that site I linked) and I'm happy with it, sitting on one of my shelves. There are a few other models I've done that have taken anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days, including the HMS Bristol (Airfix, days), an Imperial Lambda class Shuttle from Star Wars (Revell, an hour or two IIRC) and a couple of aircraft, none of which I have any more but I believe were also Airfix.

All told, I don't have much experience with these things, but it is pretty fun, at least until you get glue on your fingers and it won't come off :P
