You're always the one answering the questions! And sorry for seeing this so late.

It's been a while since I played with it, but if memory serves - deployAnimationController told the part which animation state the part needed to be in for the docking port to be active. In the shielded and inline docking ports that's "1" to tell it that the ports animation beginning (the zero point) is closed and should allow docking when the animation has been run to the end (1).

I've got no idea what the deployAnimationTarget does though!
