Can I play KSP with my Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X joystick?

Recommended Posts

It would help us all if you would tell us some things you tried to make it work and under which conditions (operating system, KSP version, joystick driver version, ...). That could btw the reason why no-one has replied yet.

This ^^.

I've found using a joystick very straightforward with KSP, simply a matter of checking the Control options and binds. If using Windows, make sure the stick is properly installed and calibrated via Control Panel before going into the game.

I've heard that unity (and by extension KSP) ignores windows calibration settings and instead uses the raw inputs.

That could be true (although personal experience gives me reason to wonder - I run a PS3 controller with extensive calibration adjustments), but regardless the Windows calibration system would tell you if the joystick should be working properly. Process of elimination.

This is what I do:

- I hook the ThrustMaster T.Flight Hotas X Joystick up to my 64-bit computer with Windows 7 Enterprise and also with processor Intel Core i3 CPU with a USB cord

- I go to "Control Panel", and I search "Game" and under "Devices and Printers" I see "Set up USB game controllers", I click that

- I click "Properties", I click "OK", I minimize that and play the game (set controls right if I have to but it wouldn't let me do that)

That's what the instructions from "PC Hook Up" ays on the instructions paper in the box that the joystick came in.

Do u use this joystick for other games, or is it something you're trying to set up for the first time?

There is a full calibration wizard for joysticks in one of the control panel device properties/configure tabs, tho I forget exactly where. This would get you to swivel the joystick all the way round and press various buttons, and you would be able to see everything working as intended (assuming it does). Sorry I'm not being particularly detailed, I'm on Mac at the mo... :(

The reason for doing this is simply to confirm that as far as Windows is concerned the joystick is working properly. If we can establish that, then it would be time to consider what could be causing the game to ignore it. Until then, it's a bit like asking why your PC won't boot up without checking if it's plugged in at the wall.

I've tried it with Microsoft Flight Simulator X Demo before and I've also used it with my PS3 2014 Edition with Birds of Steel. KSP is ignoring the joystick. Where can I see the Joystick Usage Wizard (I really don't know what it's called. Like you said, "a full calibration wizard for joysticks")?

You have to assign your joysticks axis and buttons (sensitivity and deadzones too) inside KSP, in the input tab of the settings.

Your videogames won't automagically know how do you want to set your joystick.

Some games (like ms flight X) have a default joystick settings but its always a good idea to remap your controls how you like them.
