possible way to add new planets

Recommended Posts

hi, im new for C# or most programing languages, but i can think of unusual ways to add things. so i was thinking for new possibly modded planets, would it be possible to tell ksp to check if the planet part already exists and if not put it in a special position orbiting kerbol, if it already exists then move on to the next part. then to stop it screwing up tell the planet part to not show up in the vab. as i said before im new to programing so im not sure if this is possible.

Sorry, but I don\'t think this is possible - I\'ve looked through a lot of the stuff about the planets, and I see no way to duplicate or create a new planet. Creating a new planet out of parts could be possible, but it would be very hacky, and it wouldn\'t allow any of the normal planetary stuff... creating one would be so impractical that it\'s just not worth it. It would look horrible, there would be a load of physics errors... It would be so bad that it just wouldn\'t be worth it.

I wouldn\'t be so negative. I\'ve seen people MOVE THE MUN. And to me, if moving the Mun is possible, then it should be possible to add in planets one way or another.

Well, funnily enough, i was that guy who released the plugin to move the mun!

And trust me, creating or duplicating planets doesn\'t look very easy... or even possible, right now.

I know there is a mod that an asteroid could be put into an instant orbit... What if a person made parts that were planets? Then use instant orbit then use the persistent like a released map. Then we should have planets without going through all the coding of the wonderful game we know and love. Would that work?

But you wouldnt be able to land on those 'part-Planets', nor would they give off any gravity.

As far as i understood it, the planets/moons essentially jerk your ship into another \'dimension\' as they get close, since only 1 gravitational body can affect the ship at once.

Parts just don\'t have that kind of functionality, afaik. It\'s like saying that we could use a planet to attach on a stick in front of the ship as a gravity engine.

Actually, there is a part gravity plugin....

Yes, but it doesn\'t work while time-warping.

It MAY be possible now though, since the patched conics code turned all the orbital parameter stuff into a more abstract system... that doesn\'t get around the part size limit, however.
