Hullo fellow Kerbals!

First I want to say Kerbal Space Program is a blast! No puns there! The creators have really made a unique and absolutely fun game based on science and NASA! I am learning stuff! I play allot of Table Top and Board Games which take up most of my spare time but I get as much Kerbal time as possible.

I have a sandbox game going on for testing vehicles that I want to use in Science and Career modes. I know that seems like a cheat but I have had to restart Science and Career modes a few times due to running out of funds and science and it is a good way to practice launching vehicles. Perhaps I am doing something wrong but I have not really made allot of progress in those modes to make restarting a game an issue.

The main question I have here on the intro threads is what is the bast way to search for an answer to specific missions or challenges in career mode? Should I just search for the mission itself in the search fields? I assume that most of the questions for missions have already been answered and instead of asking it again in the forums I thought I could just search for it.

The forum search is not very good so it's best to read the thread titles in Gameplay Questions And Tutorials for specific questions. The best way to find tutorials is to look in The Drawing Board, which is an index of them all.

What though do you mean by "an answer" to specific missions? You start with "launch a new spacecraft" - do you have a problem with that? "Reach an altitude of 5,000 meters" - not a problem, right? "Get into orbit" - may well want to read about the difference between getting into space and getting into orbit. Part-test contracts 'in flight' cause quite a bit of confusion, you'll find several threads about them.

Or are you looking for someone else's vehicles? My tutorial (link in signature) goes through 30-odd vehicle and 50-something mission designs in a logical order. For sandbox, not career, since the tech-tree in that doesn't make any sense.

What I am looking for is essentially a walk through for each of the contracts. I don't want to "cheat" my way through the game but if I get stumped then it would be great to find the answer, or method to completing a contract that is giving me trouble. Some of them can seem complicated with conditions such as doing something in flight at a certain altitude and speed. I end up going through allot of trial and error, along with credits building and launching vehicles.

Most of the contracts, what I referred to as missions, are fairly straight forward and are simple to accomplish. However one of the contracts that has me stumped at the beginning is testing the booster on the ground. Is it as simple as building a basic rocket and setting it off? Seeing as how it starts on the ground would that trigger completion of that contract? Or do I have to wait until I unlock the launch stability and support gantry? Probably not the correct description but it is the red crane looking device that locks the rocket on place. I figure that would allow me to just place the gantry on the vehicle with the booster or engine attached and set them off but not release the gantry. While in career mode I did not want to waste an entire vehicle assembly just to get that one contract completed.

The easiest way is to to wait for the clamps because to get "Landed" you have to be in the air at some point. Also, you can check out the Gameplay Questions and Answers forum if you have any more questions.

No, you don't. You can test those "landed" contracts just by launching, loading onto the launchpad/runway and staging/running test. Easy as pie.

Generally, KSP players build different rockets and/or planes for each new mission. You can probably find one that will fulfill your parameters for whatever contract, but the easiest way to get a ship (once you know the basics) is to make it yourself.

By the way, there is no "Guide to All Contracts in KSP" if that's what you're looking for. Say hello to procedural generation... :P

Meanwhile, hello! And welcome to the Furom Forum!

[i really did just type it like that, by the way...]
