Texture Bug and Lag - Need Help Please!

Recommended Posts

So I have recently bought the game after playing the demo for many months and my god, is it amazing!

Three problems right off the bat, however..

#1 - As soon as I change the graphics settings to 1440x900 + Fullscreen then close the game and open it back up, it crashes as soon as it is finished loading

#2 - When I keep the default settings and go to build a space/air craft, the tab that houses all of the parts, has an abnormal texture to it, I'll add an image to show you guys (when the game decides to load at a decent pace now..)

And #3 - Whilst I'm preparing to build my craft, I have lag of around 10-20, maybe less frames per second. Now I tried to change the graphical settings which I knew, but the rest is like Swahili to me, so I would appreciate your help!

Computer specs that I know:

Windows 7 32-bit

8GB Total RAM, only 3.48GB accessible

nVidia GeForce 560 Ti Graphics Card

1.8 Terabytes of hard drive space, so KSP has plenty of space to run on :P

If you guys have any ideas, please just blast every single one at me, I will try to see if any of them work.

I have already found that if I delete the settings.cfg file, however, after changing the screen res and turning the game to fullscreen, makes it launch properly and safely.

Thanks

Hi deivius90,

For your issues:

#1 - With v0.25 and the addition of so many new parts, the game spikes out on memory usage right when the main menu is supposed to come up. Unfortunately, even though you have 8GB of memory, you're using a 32-bit operating system (so you only have ~3.5GB available as you pointed out).

The fix for this is to reduce texture quality to half or less. Since the game crashes and you can't do it in there, open up your settings.cfg file with something like notepad. Look for the line that says "TEXTURE_QUALITY = 0" and change it to "TEXTURE_QUALITY = 1" (or you can try 2 or 3 to start off with). Now you should be able to start the game.

#2 -Could be due to one of two things. Either it's related to memory issues from above, or you have a corrupt KSP installation. What you describe has been common with steam installs (which I can't tell if you're using). Try the graphics fix. If that doesn't work, re-download KSP.

If you got it from the store: https://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com/instructions.php

If you got it from steam: delete or move KSP to another locaton. Open steam and verify the game cache.

If you have any save games you want to keep, you'll need to copy those directories out of KSP/Saves directory.

Oh, and as a final note. KSP doesn't like to be installed to places like "My Documents" or the desktop. It's recommended to use some place such as C:/Games/KSP

Good luck and welcome to the forums! :D
