[13.3][stock][Heavy mun lander] Mun Power!

Meet Mun Power, the transport for a 5-ton nuclear power plant and control station. Destination: Mun!

For the cargo load, I used two engines (with no fuel) and an extra ASAS module rather than using a mod.

Unfortunately, I over-engineered it a little bit, and it landed on the Mun with almost 3 full tanks of fuel to spare! I guess I could have moved the next detach phase up a bit, but Jeb hadn\'t seen any explosions yet, and I figured the fuel tanks would be easier to turn into dorms if they were on their sides, anyway.

Returning from the Mun on just compressed air was...interesting. I missed my first attempt to get back to Kerbal (I should have just gone for a straight shot instead of a Hohman transfer) -- I thought an apo (from mun) of 1.5 million towards Kerbal would be enough to get caught by Kerbal, but it wasn\'t. However, I -was- able to put the kerbonauts on a course home eventually.

Unfortunately, I put the time dilation on maximum, and it wasn\'t able to slow itself down before my Kerbonauts made a small crater on Kerbal. It\'s also possible that Bill got a case of gas after eating nothing but nutri-paste for two weeks, and the Kerbonauts may have all suffocated. Regardless, the capsule crashed into Kerbal without ever deploying its chute.

As soon as I figure out how to attach files, I\'ll be happy to share the design with anyone interested. It\'s a fun craft with lots of power to spare, even with a relatively heavy cargo load, and it\'s small enough that at least on my computer it\'s not laggy at all.

Below the text entry box for making a post is 'Attachments and other options'. Click on that and....

Hmmm... I guess we can\'t attach anything at the moment. At least you\'ll know where to find it when it comes back again.

I\'m sure they\'ll fix it eventually. I managed to splash down back on Kerbal on my second attempt of the day:

You\'ll note that I didn\'t manage to land it vertically this time, which if I have a liquid fueled final stage spells doom. But with my can of compressed air, it only meant a few crazy maneuevers on launching (You can see the landed payload in the background on image 2). I will note that I didn\'t seperate the liquid stages that landed this time, as it probably would have blown up my kerbals.

If you try this rocket, you\'ll need at least a tiny bit of fuel to cushion your return to kerbal, as the chute only slows it to about 14 m/s and the RCS tanks are delicate.
