Merge my ksp install to my steam account?

Hi,

I installed ksp independently (Linux run-in-place) and I recently got steam.

could I get ksp on steam now for free, or move my ksp into steam somehow?

I'm afraid not. Stand-alone to Steam transfers were only available to those who purchased the game prior to being released on Steam.

If you bought the game before a Steam version was available then you can log into your KSP store account and transfer the purchase, for example this is my store copy of KSP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0p3vjfl7x9t089p/transferpurchase.png?dl=0

If you don't see that button then it's not possible to transfer your purchase to Steam because you bought it after KSP was released on Steam.

What's the reason behind this, though? Is it a technical or legal one (as in, by agreement with Valve)?
