Docking clamps have stopped working

Recommended Posts

For some reason, I'm entirely unable to dock any more. Clampotrons won't clamp, no matter what I do; I've docked dozens of times before. I'm completely at wit's end; the problem is persisting even when I restart the game. I'm pretty sure this is a bug, and I need a workaround.

  • Both docking ports are the same size.
  • Both craft are powered.
  • Both docking ports are facing outwards.
  • Both docking ports are aligned with the window near the top.
  • Other docking port is targeted, using Control From Here for local port.
  • Craft is aligned, within 1 m, and with < 50 mm/s velocity in X and Y axes.
  • I activated staging on the craft (I remember reading something about it being necessary to activate staging to engage Clampotrons.)
  • RCS and SAS are off (though I have docked with them on before.)

The problem started when I attempted to dock two regular-sized radially-mounted Clamptrons. I figured it was just a matter of Clampotrons not working when attached radially. But now I can't dock my fuel ship with my space station - even though it was docked there before.

Here are a couple of pictures:

Thank you! That looks like the problem I am having. (I checked a number of other threads, most of which seemed to be people having trouble docking for the first time.)

I'll try it out, and change this question to answered if it works.

(I've never tried editing the save files, but I do like they're in a human-readable format.)

failing that do a search for "state = Acquire" - and change that to "state = Ready" - thats how I solved a similar problem I was having.

Edit: Best OP problem and diagnostics ever (I wish my helpdesk opened a ticket anywhere near that level of detail!)

I edited the save last night, found a few docking clamps in state = Acquire, and almost all of the had an eight-digit dockUId (which I changed to zero for those not engaged.) Haven't tried it out yet, though.

That should do it, it's the dockUId that throws everything off.
