Fine Print mod: finding waypoints for rover missions

Recommended Posts

I just completed a contract from Fine Print to search for the location of anomalous signals on the Mun with a rover, and it was awesome.

But it was really difficult to work out where the waypoints actually are. I can see the waypoints in the navigation screen, but not in flight mode. When the rover went over a bump or something the navball would occasionally show a pink marker with the heading that I needed to go in.

Am I just missing something really obvious? It would be fantastic if the waypoints were highlighted in the way that it is easy to see other craft or debris.

Best regards,

Sam

PS: I'm using enhanced nav ball, incase that complicates matters.

What does your navball show? If it's all-blue, it's sort of pointing at the sky, half-blue half-brown and it's pointing at the horizon (and not necessarily in the direction of travel) and all-brown is pointing at the ground. Granted, you can use any of these to figure out your direction of travel, but half-and-half will be most useful for picking up markers. It's best to have something correctly aligned so you can "control from here" and see what you're doing (assuming your ACTUAL control module was rigged for descent).

It's all blue. I'm using the same control module on the rover as on the launch vehicle (it is just discarded anyway). Maybe that has been causing me some troubles, I'm guessing it's supposed to be pointing at the horizon?

Yep, that's your issue. Because it's a rover contract the waypoints are on the surface which you can't see if your control point is pointing skywards.

So how do I change the direction of the control point? I put the control module on the top of the rover, I don't think it fits if I put it on the end.

DUPLICATE: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/99621-Rover-reversed-controls-on-the-Mun-%280-25-Linux%29

Dude, it's all about looking where you're going instead of starting at the clouds.

It's probably fair to say that this issue and my other issue are dupes, so I'll close this thread... but it is still unanswered.

answering this anyway just to help you out with this specific issue - you need to put a probe core (octo one is probably best) or a small docking port jr on the front of your rover and then right click on it and choose control from here - this will then show your navball pointing in the direction you're heading in. You should then point towards the waypoint on the navball and hit the gas.
