Career mode Mission bug?

Recommended Posts

Hi and thanks. I've completed 4 of the easy missions in career mode but seem to be having a problem with the mission that involves using a decoupler (the something-something 18â€â€one of the first ones, if not actually THE first decoupler). I've went into orbit with the decoupler, went around Kerbin (or the whatever the home planet of the Kerbals is called) a few times, and used the decoupler to, well, decouple my engine after burning to a reentry trajectory. After landing successfully two of the parameters for the mission were completed but the mission remain incomplete because it says I have to use the decoupler. Well, I did.

Is this a bug? I know that there are some missions that need to be completed using a plane rather than a rocket but this said nothing about flying. Any help appreciated. Thanks and safe flying!

It seems not all mission parameters were met during decoupling.

In most cases you must use staging to activate the testing part. All testing criteria must be green at that moment (you can check that in the mission log).

I've tried all missions possible. At least the basic ones. Didn't have issues with any of them.

The part-testing contracts will give you criteria that need to be achieved to complete the contract.

These will be some combination of:

Body - Early on will always be Kerbin, later can be other bodies depending on progress.

Situation - IIRC this can be Landed, Splashed Down, Flying, On a Suborbital Trajectory, In Orbit Around, or On an Escape Trajectory from.

Altitude - ASL altitude (or datum altitude for bodies with no sea level) to perform the test. This will have upper and lower bounds.

Speed - Speed at which to perform the test. This will have upper and lower bounds.

Test method - Either staging or 'right-click and select test'.

The part must be tested using the correct method, while all other criteria are met.

In flight, you can open the contract pane from the app launcher (toolbar), and you will see a green check mark by each currently met criterion. When all are green, perform the test and the contract will be completed.

Since you note that two parameters were completed after you had landed the craft, I suspect the contract is 'Test $PART landed at Kerbin'. If this is indeed the case, you'll need to stage off a spare decoupler either before launch or after landing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Yes, indeed it said "Landed" as a parameter. I thought that meant that you had to successfully land after decoupling using staging and didn't realize that it had to be done prior to or after landing. Thanks so much and safe flying!
