Can't get Cargo Bay to Release?

Recommended Posts

I have a small module in a Mk2 Cargo Bay (stock). The problem is, how do I get it out? I put it in with decouplers (it seemed the only way to get it in there properly). But now both just give me "control from here" as an option and I don't get "decouple".

It looks like you have connected the docking ports at the wrong nodes. The two faces of the docking ports that should be touching each other are too deeply overlapped.

Try going back to the SPH/VAB and pulling off the probe (starting at the docking port that would stay with the probe. Then watch carefully as you reattach it. The narrow lips of the docking port should not overlap.

(Edit: Yes, what the ninja said. :D )

I'm having the exact same problem as the OP, but for the life of me, I cannot get the docking ports to attach without overlapping. I attach one port to the bulkhead, then attempt to attach the other face-to-face with the first. For some reason as I get the 2nd port close to the first, it spins around and tries to attach backwards (and overlaps the first). If I first place it in the air, then manually rotate it 180*, I can get it to go face-to-face with the first port, but it overlaps (just like in the pic above). No matter how hard I try, I cannot get it to back-up and snap into place with the first port. Very frustrating (especially considering that I was all the way into orbit before I realized the port wouldn't undock). Is there any trick to getting the ports to snap into place face-to-face (and not overlapping) so that they work properly?

One issue with docking ports is that they can either surface attach or node attach, but it seems like they've got a preference for surface attaching.

Assuming both of your docking ports have nodes showing, hold ALT to force it to node attach.

This kept happening to me and it nearly drove me insane. I've now developed the habit of decoupling my payloads on the runway just to make sure it works, then reverting to launch, even though visually I've learned to tell the different between clipped and non-clipped docking ports.

For better visualization, maybe try connecting the docking ports together outside the vessel in the SPH (e.g. slap a port on the skin of the aircraft, then attach the other docking port to the node, and move the whole thing into the bay) for future builds?

ALT!!!!

Holding Alt did the trick.

ATTENTION EVERYONE!!! HOLDING "ALT" WILL MAKE BUILDING STUFF EASIER!!!

LOL! Can't believe I've played the game as much as I have and I just discovered this.

For the life of me, I couldn't get that docking port to couple with the other. Held "Alt" and BOOM!, snapped right into place.

Thanks guys!
