The Rube Goldberg Community Challenge!

Recommended Posts

I whipped together this fun community challenge so that YOU can show off your KSP building skills!

Basically the idea is to have multiple people contribute multiple segments to a Rube Goldberg Machine.

I built the first segment, and whoever submits the next best segment will have it be permanently added.

In the end, I will create an awesome video of the whole thing and put it up on YouTube. If your part makes it into the final build, then your name will be mentioned in the video.

I'll give you guys 48 hours to build after a new segment is added.

Submit your entries on this thread, along with the build file so I can test it out.

RULES:

--> May only consist of stock KSP parts. If KSP is updated with new parts before the machine is finished, then those will be okay too.

--> Nothing obscene or offensive

--> You can use mods as long as it they are not required on a Stock Machine (I.E. the Hanger Extension mod for more build space, visual mods, etc.)

--> Machine must not require any input after it starts. (no staging or action groups after it begins)

--> Setup before it starts is fine (for instance, having to drive a small rover into position or something)

NOTE:

In my build, I have a bunch of docking ports bound to a single action group.

By using docking ports, I can separate parts of the machine to create free flowing motion (in the video, each one of the "dominoes" is attached initally with a docking port. Those docking ports have to be seperated before they can move and transfer energy). I suggest you do this as well.

When I'm ready for the machine to start, all I have to do is hit "1" on my keyboard.

I admit it won't be easy. KSP game mechanics make this especially difficult. I realized that after making this, but perhaps in the future when KSP is more stable and optimized something like this will be easier to pull off. Until then, If anyone wants to contribute or give it a try, more power to them.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
