How do I get a gif as an avatar?

I want to have a gif as my avatar. I've seen stupid_chris with that shaky penguin face avatar, but I have no clue how to do my own...

You'll need to make the .gif 60px square, and there's a filesize limit too, so you might have to compress it a lot.

Moderators are granted some leniency with their avatars so that we stand out a bit (the name colours aren't super obvious if you're not used to looking for them), which is why our avatars might be a bit beyond what users are permitted to have.
