Antivirus Keeps Blocking Garry's Mod

I bought GMod today, but Avast keeps marking it's hl2.exe as suspicious and tells the system not to run it. I have gone into the virus chest and told it to "Restore and add to exclusions" three times and it has not worked. Any ideas on how to solve this?

can't you just disable avast while you're playing it? i got sick of overly-intrusive AV software a long time ago and currently i only use malwarebytes which has modules which handily toggle on and off.

When the popup appears doesn't it give you an option to run it anyways? Second thing to try is run it as admin.

Since I just tested my Gmod with avast and it worked first time I used it on this computer by the way, I'm going to say it's a pebkac error.

Try using Silent/Gaming mode. I had terrible trouble in terrorist town with Garry's Mod completely freezing my PC at the server list screen.

Can't you add it to the exception list?

Dump Avast and go AVG.

Gaming mode is what you need. avast! is one of the least obtrusive antivirus programs ever. It works silently on my machine for months without nagging me at all.
