Tombtone near KSC? (spoilers inside)

Recommended Posts

What the heck is that?

DGlWllF.jpg

It's right next to the KSC, exact coordinates are:

0°06'08'' N
74°34'09'' W

or about 1870 m in heading 329° from the East end of the KSC Runway.

Does anybody else have that "monolith" or "tombstone" there or is it just me?

It's the top of one of the "Easter Eggs" in KSP, a black floating obelisk with the Squad logo on it.

Why it's mostly buried is another matter.... are you running any mods, or did an update do this recently? I didn't hear anything about it.

I run loads of mods, but I have no Idea which could be burying it.

Since I just found out about it, I can't tell you if it's the update.

@all: 0.25 (half) buried it, reported in a few threads, including forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/60551-Spoiler-Easter-Egg-Stocktake-0-23-%28Done%21%29-Pic-Heavy/page9

@OP: Remember the film/book "2001: A Space Odyssey?" - advanced aliens had left 'monoliths' around. This is one of the equivalents in KSP. They have no effect but are fun to track down. There are a lot of other 'Easter Eggs' (Americanism) on Kerbin and elsewhere, detailed in the thread linked above. Several of them are monoliths but a few are ... more interesting.

[The thing is, programmers get bored at work too and sometimes they put a 'joke' into whatever programme they're working on, 'just because']
