What's prestige good for? Anything?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I had a quick question: what's prestige/reputation good for? I have a career game going and I set up an internship program really quickly to start converting reputation into science. After a while, I considered starting a fund-raising campaign to more fully strip out the reputation into funds. Then I asked the question: what's this stuff good for anyway?

Is it used for anything?

Does it affect what contracts are offered and how often?

Thanks for the help!

It does affect what contracts are offered, but I'm unclear of the exact details. Negative (or at least deeply negative) prestige rep tends to result in missing out on exploration ones.

Hi,

If i'm not wrong, high reputation allow you to access more prestigious contract, by that I mean exploration contract and contract were the reword is worth the launch (better than test x part landed/splashed on kerbin). Well i never get bad reputation so I can't confirm that.

edit: a sneaky ninja get me

Reputation (there is no resource called prestige) affects the contracts that are offered.

If you look in Mission Control, you'll see contracts of three levels of importance/difficulty/prestige, as measured by stars (1, 2, or 3 stars). To the best of my understanding, the more prestigious contracts require higher Reputation to be offered- and you will be offered a higher proportion of prestigious contracts with a higher Reputation total.

I can vouch for this. I made a career save starting with negative reputation, and I wasn't offered a single contract above Kerbin orbit until I was able to raise my rep a fair bit (a lot of grinding). Also, with the new strategies, you can turn reputation into science and funds and whatnot, so it definitely is useful.

This got me with career mode on hard. I can only go to LKO so many times to gather science data before I say the heck with it and start a new savegame.
