Captain Sierra
I once attempted to start up a mission blog. Shortly thereafter, my laptop began to develop a heating problem. I ordered a Dell XPS 17 with a GeForce GT550M and an i7 quad-core @2.20GHz so I saw it coming, but tried to ignore the inevitable for almost 2 years. A week ago (at the time of writing this), I ordered and built my own desktop optimized for hardcore gaming. This marks an end to my heating problems as the desktop main fan actually outputs BELOW room temperature at low stress operation such as browsing the forums or watching youtube. With hardware no longer problematic, I asked myself what I wanted to do with it in the coming year. I wanted to do something wonderful, something that would bring people together and entertain them. Many ideas crossed my mind. Higher graphical fidelity meant that youtube content was a solid contender. Campus internet also is vastly superior to my home and it too was a solid contender. Then I thought about KSP, which I had not played since my heating problems began. With January coming up and the year ending, New Year's Resolutions have become a popular topic of conversation. I've never once made one of significance but the thought stuck with me. I've since made my first meaningful resolution in the form of a challenge. This challenge was to complete a mission or part of a mission in KSP at least once a day. I couldn't leave it there. Something like that cannot be kept to one's self. This needs to be shared and published for the enjoyment of all, and so here I am.The Challenge:To execute, at minimum, a mission or a part of a mission each day for an entire year. A part of a mission shall be defined as a launch from surface to orbit, a landing from orbit to surface, an ejection burn for interplanetary transfer, or an orbital capture from interplanetary transfer.I have elected not to count docking, ship construction, mid-course corrections, and transfers from parent to moon as these I deem not significant enough to be considered meaningful progress. The Showcase:http://sierraspaceindustries.weebly.com/I have refreshed the website I once used for a mission blog in preparation for vigorous use. I have retained much of the original formatting as I do wish to reinvigorate the mission blogging both alongside and after the Kerbal 365 challenge.http://www.twitch.tv/capsierra/I also will be streaming Friday afternoons on my Twitch channel. This will NOT be the case for Friday January 2. Instead, the week's stream will be on Thursday January 1 as a special kickoff to the challenge.I hereby challenge all who dare accept to participate in a Kerbal 365 challenge of their own, beginning January 1, 2015I dream of seeing dozens of threads posted here on December 31 showcasing a year's worth of achievement. Take your space program to new heights, and show it off to the world! Edited December 21, 2014 by Captain Sierra
randomness5555
Seems cool. While I could try doing it myself, I probably wouldn't have as much success (not that that will stop me trying!), but I have had a thought. You say a mission could be a take-off, landing ect-how about one year long mission split into many parts eh? eh? Just a thought

You say a mission could be a take-off, landing ect-how about one year long mission split into many parts eh? eh? Just a thought I couldn't come up with a yearlong mission. With a part per day, I could never craft a goal big enough that it would take more than a few months. That said I'm definitely planning several long term missions. I'd like to colonize Duna, Laythe, the Mun, and possibly some other places. I want to have a fully self sustaining colony network through Jool, and I want to run a grand tour at some point. As for other stuff, I just posted some stuff on the blogs in the website. I talk all manner of things from mods to adding a forum to the website. Be sure to check them out!
Fleskhjerta14577
My computer has a heating issue, too. It's a really big problem, especially when it overheats mid-livestream or mid-recording.. but nonetheless, it's annoying all around. I will attempt this on my alternate laptop, which is starting to develop the heating problem as of now.. however, I will participate in this challenge for as long as thermally possible. I really do like the idea of this. Thanks for sharing it!

I'm looking to do one last trial run on December 19th as per my planned schedule (Fridays at 2PM EST) before my special Thursday January 1 kickoff stream event. I'll need every bit of luck possible. First overheat happened a few hours ago. The thermal-hopefully-not-nuclear war has begun against this crappy laptop.. ugh. Also, what happens if you miss, for example, two days of missions? I am in Boy Scouts, and we do campouts occasionally.. lots of them. So if I miss two days, would I just do two extra missions the next possible day?

In my case, I'm not entirely sure, since I'm documenting EVERYTHING in the public eye. In your case, you can do that if you feel up to it. It's really about the spirit of the challenge and if something like that gets in the way, so be it. What it really is meant to be about is to get people playing, making progress, and having fun. That said, I have some pretty bad news. My motherboard just went. Less than 3 weeks old and it's gone DOA. I dunno if I shocked it unknowingly last time I was working on it and the damage was delayed, if the surge protector didn't do its job when the power went out this morning, or what happened, but I'm putting in the RMA tomorrow morning. If you're following me, this means that Friday's test stream will not be happening. Newegg has been good to me with expedited RMAs before (I had to do one on my PSU already), so I'm down for the count for about a week, at least on my good rig. I'm praying this doesn't mean I need to reformat my hard disk. I didn't have that much on it, but loading down a 64 bit windows KSP install is tedious because throwing it all on at once will break it. I have to add them a few at a time as I get closer to the end.I am also sadly locked off my pure-stock career mode save. That is the first time since I got the game I have been having fun without mods. I'll cross-post to my website at some point tomorrow to keep people updated. I will keep everyone posted on my status and be sure to let everyone know when I'm operational again. On the bright side, this happened early enough to where it won't interfere with the Kerbal 365 schedule, so thank God for that.

So I almost have the same case, but it's weekly (or monthly). Also, motherboard went? I've had that happen before. Strangest part is, like yours, it just.. died. No reason whatsoever. Also, the second bolded part.. I actually still need to install KSP, on this new laptop I don't have it yet.. that might be a problem. Worst thing about this laptop? 4GB ram. 4. I probably can't even run many mods with that.. ugh. Good luck with your motherboard, though.Progress Update: I am beginning the framework of my new install with basic essentials.. stuff like Docking Alignment, KW, KEngineer, Kethane, Interstellar, HorizontalSpaceBases, KSOS, and a few other mods that I forgot. No Mechjeb though! Edited December 17, 2014 by Fleskhjerta14577
Captain Sierra
Ouch. That 4GB of RAM is gonna kill you more than 32 bit cuz you gotta fit system memory and everything else on there too. My advice is to force OpenGL as that can cut RAM by >20%. Alternatively DirectX 11 can cut ram by >50% but that's nuclear unstable. Forcing DirectX 11 actually makes KSP as unstable as people like to say 64 bit does (my 64 bit is perfectly stable). Fleskhjerta14577
I don't understand the whole discussion about 64 bit either -- mine was perfectly fine (except for mods that are disabled on Win64 for some reason), but then my heat vent decided to die.. I'm going to use the OpenGL function for sure, also. But now, because of 0.90 (70 version jump much?) I have to remake lifters, SSTOs, transfer stages, saves, everything.. welp. This challenge is going to be fun. Edited December 17, 2014 by Fleskhjerta14577
Captain Sierra
Well everybody, its 2015 and I am officially on the air!www.twitch.tv/capsierra^^Well that ended with some pretty abysmal technical difficulties. In other news, the mission report is up and online if anyone's looking for a read.http://sierraspaceindustries.weebly.com/mission-blog/up-we-go Edited January 1, 2015 by Captain Sierra
Foxxonius Augustus
Hiya folks. Firstly, First Post WOOHOO!! So I have been lurking on these forums for years now as I have been with youtube, I decided to change both at the same time. I have decided to accept your challenge and I will be doing a video every day to keep track of my progress. I may set up a thread as well but for now a link to my channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuH6tn6g-3xEtl9VhSN92nA/feed
Captain Sierra
Sorry, but today's posting will be somewhat delayed. I have a lot I want to do as well as not a lot of time. I'm working into the night on both the missions and the posting. Stay tuned.

Captain Sierra
Finally got a megapost up. Past 48 hours have been pure chaos as spring semester just started. Back in action, back with a plan, back with new twists. The latest from SSI: http://sierraspaceindustries.weebly.com/mission-blog/playing-catchupEDIT 1/17/15:Wanted to post an update without bumping the thread and drawing attention. I got good news and bad news. That explains the reasons behind but but the TL;DR is that I had my eyes opened and that K365 is, in the long term, detrimental to what I really am out to achieve here. This thread and the challenge is here to stay but I made the lock request on it so that people here to follow me know that I'm moving on. Read the linked post in this edit for the full story. Thanks for your support guys,-Sierra Edited January 17, 2015 by Captain Sierra
Fleskhjerta14577
ScanSAT crashed into Duna because I forgot I had RemoteTech. Ugh. Does it still count as a mission? I did it, but then lost connection to it. Also, I lost connection to SpaceStationOne, and I can't open the only docking port available on the station, a shielded docking port. Why, RemoteTech.. why. I have at least 30 long range antennas on the station, it's in perfect view of KSC, and I still can't control it. It has full power as well. The Korion MPCV is literally just orbiting 30 meters from it, waiting until I can open it. TAC Life Support is also in play, so I have to either dock them soon or bring them back down, otherwise they'll run out of supplies. Why is this so complicated.. Foxxonius Augustus
btw I did get a forum thread up and running to detail my play through of this wonderful challenge. It can be found Here. Anyway I love the challenge and am enjoying following your progress. Keep it up!
