Inconsistent "Rate thread" option

Just curious what criteria allow or disallow users to "rate" entire threads. I get it only rarely.

I honestly don't really know. It's enabled or disabled on a per forum basis and it could very well be that on some forums it's enabled while it's disabled on others. That might need some looking into. What would be your preference (enabled or disabled)?

Uh, enabled, I guess? Knowing its forum-by-forum actually helps explain the percieved inconsistency. The only forum it seems to be disabled in that I spend any time on is the "General discussion".

I feel like that forum may be where it would get the most use (help separate chaff from the wheat), but it's also where it could get the most abuse. It may be better that it stays off there...

Maybe enable it to see if the fears are worth having? It can always get turned back off it the system seems to be abused.

I must say I clicked on this thread because I could not figure out why I could rate some threads but not others.

Just posting in a thread where someone is talking about thread ratings makes me want to rate some threads...

The anonymity of thread rating makes it a bit useless IMO. In the forums where threads can be rated the rating is not a good indicator of anything as far as I can tell. There was a recent thread about it.

Honestly, I think people (particurally regulars) should start trying to rate pretty much every thread that they have an opinion of, right now the rating system appears as though it's only used by trolls and people who don't know about the rep system >.>

Then again, trying to get an entire internet community to use a feature is like trying to herd cats.

Even if people did use it, it's still not that useful of a feature. And it would be endless tedium trying to rate everything that turns up. It's simply not worth it.
