Moon Orbit CubeSat Mission - The Kommunity Spaceflight Initiative (KSI)

Hello I'm the project manager of the Kommunity Spaceflight Initiative.

Me and some multinational engineers and scientists are attempting to put the first entirely nonâ€Âgovernmental satellite in orbit around the Moon – this CubeSat being christened “Lunar Imaging Satellite 1,†or LISâ€Â1 for short. Our plan is to hitch a ride with the Astrobotic Griffin Lander to the Moon (Late 2016) and once in orbit, we would begin our mission taking photos of the Moon's surface for possible future landing sites and photos of both the Apollo 11 and 17 landing sites.

(Some Early Modeling Work)

We have a great team working hard to meet certain dates, but we can always use more hands. We're currently going through the design phase and recruitment drive. We have a subreddit and a website where anyone can learn more and stay up to date on what we're currently doing and our other secret side projects. We also have a weekly public IRC meeting that anyone can sit in on and voice their opinions. Our current plan is to finish the designs and calculations, then move onto public funding and construction and then transportation to Astrobotic to be loaded onto the lander. I know there isn't a lot to show with most of the work done on paper and modeling, but we are putting together a plan to put the CubeSat into production and we are in talks with Astrobotic.
