I deliberately used an example that highlighted the problem in terms that players can understand. The issue is that the stated value is ambiguously labelled, making its mathematical basis and therefore function, unclear. By extension, my example was also ambiguously labelled, but demonstrated the two possible interpretations of that ambiguity - the basis of the debate.
