Why is my custom circular flag not circular in the VAB?

Rhetorical question, I think I know the answer.

It appears fine on parts, but on the big flag in the VAB, it's stretched. Yes, it's not something as simple as 'my flag isn't circular', I assure you it is. I'm guessing the answer is that the aspect ratio of the big flag isn't the same as actual normal flags. Yeah, not a major issue, but it just looks so.. unprofessional, I guess.

Oh, I wondered if there might be something like this. Something about how the flags and the decals looked was a bit off.

It isn't a major issue, but it might still be worth submitting a feedback report on the Tracker for.

With a quick test, I confirm what the OP said, flag not circular, not behaving as perspective changes would predict:

The solution might be to make a new flag file, using an existing one as a template, at least for image size. That's what I did for flags I've made, and I haven't run into this problem.

This is a problem that only someone at Squad can fix. The plane the flag is on is just too wide. It's also not too noticeable on non circular flags, so that's probably why it hasn't been reported more often.

And yet your flag matches the template exactly... There definitely is something up here.

OK, now I'm looking for it, I notice the problem. StarVision is correct: This is something Squad needs to fix.

The fix to this is to make sure to use a full size flag template, even if the edges are transparent.

The VAB flag is stretched. The same thing happens with the NASA flag.
