Old Missions Suddenly Exploding "No Operational SAS Modules and no Pilots aboard"

So I have this huge mission underway to Eve, Jeb was on the surface with his escape vessel while Bill and Lemeny are in Orbit, but since the 0.90 update when I go to see how Bill and Lemeny are doing I get this error message "Eve Trip v2 Ship has no operational SAS Modules and no Pilots aboard. Cannot engage SAS" then within a matter of moments the whole ship shakes itself to pieces!

Do I have to abandon this mission? I put a lot of work into never leaving a Kerbal behind, I'd be a bit peeved if Bill, Lemeny and Jeb all got stuck at Eve.

Hi ChaosPotato, upon immediately deleting all my mods from .25 to get that clean stock .90 beta play through I was hit with the same problem as you, however after a little experimenting in sandbox mode, I figured out that in order to use SAS you have to have a 'Pilot' on-board, as out of the original 3 (Jebadiah, Bill, and Bob) only Jebadiah is a pilot and therefore Bill cannot activate the SAS the same goes for Lemeny, you can check what they specialise in by going into map view and clicking on the 'Crew info' tab on the right, there are 3 roles kerbals can play on your spacecraft, Scientist, Engineer and pilot, unfortunately for you Bill and Lemeny are not a pilot. Hope this helped!! :3

Just in case my first post didn't come through

Following the .90 update, each crew member now has a 'specialist role' and out of the 3 original Kerbals (Jebadiah, Bill, Bob) only Jebadiah is the pilot (The other 2 are Scientists or Engineers) when it says 'No pilot aboard' it now means literally no 'pilots' aboard. I also got confused as I clearly had a kerbal in my craft, so now pilots are pilots, engineers are engineers, and scientists are scientists are scientists. I recommend you launch Jeb up to your ship with Bill and Lemeny in it, the ship in which Bill and Lemeny are in will not be able to use SAS however they can still move the ship around. Hope this helps!

Actually, now that I've thought about this, I'm wondering if those craft were saved with the SAS active. Sounds like there may be a backward compatibility problem.

Can you confirm the saved SAS state? Is it on when you switch to the craft?

Hi all! It seems like this new feature about pilot role just destroys every unmanned program. I think it's a bug.

Actually SAS is operational, but one does not simply switch it on in v0.90. Hovewer, MechJeb is still using SASes, so the solution is button "KILL ROT" in Smart A.S.S.

I too had this problem where any time a kerbal was on the ship, the ship started out at 174 m/s. When launched would almost immediately lose control. Then when engines were cut, would slowly gain speed upward. If you tried to recover on the launchpad it would not let you and when attempting to exit warned that there was a ship in flight and would revert to previous autosave. If you attempted launchpad eva the ship would fall apart. Any suggestions on this account would be appreciated. With a non-kerbal computer controlled ship, no issue.

Yeah, the SAS on my unmanned missions is now turned off.
