Kerbal Graveyard

Just hoping one of you great mod makers could write a mod that would turn the little plots out behind the hangars on the island into a little graveyard. When a kerbal dies you can write a little epitaph under their name and get a new tombstone.Sometimes Jeb can fly his jet out there and leave a small bouquet of flowers on a tiny grave as a tear hangs in his eye. Is there a mod like this? Flags might work but just wouldn't be the same.

Pretty sure this is one of the things on the not suggested list (I don't know why). That said, a while ago there is a part mod that gives you casks for dead kerbals that you can launch to space as funeral, and have them orbit around kerbin as space graveyard. I don't think that has been updated recently though. But since it is basically just a part that does exactly nothing else than just being a part with special texture I think it might work if you manage to dig it up.

Maybe something like a hill with tombstones, one for every kerbal that gave his life to science.

I guess the amount of tombstones is a good way to tell for how long the space program have been going on, and/or the level of bad luck..

I suppose the game also can auto-fill in name, date and where it happened.

I thought of this a while ago, but my idea was a memorial, not a gravestone, because (probably) they would either die in space, die in a plane crash or crash into the water. You can't find bodies from those deaths.

Or obliterated by violent explosive decompression, or flying straight into Kerbol, or lost forever on an escape trajectory from Kerbol system, or consumed by kraken, or ...well, there are sure a lot of ways for a kerbal to disappear for good huh.

Just make a few different types of tombstones. A rounded one, a cross, a star of david, an obelisk etc. Like a flag you could read the inscription if you are next to it. Could it be done so that if you have a lot of them it won't slow your computer down like a large debris field? Don't need a special building. Just have them sprout up in those little fenced in plots out on the island with the runway.

OMG it works!!! so cool! thanks RainDreamer! If anyone hasn't scene the Eterno Rest 2000 mod I encourage you to look at it. How can I get my Final Frontier decorations to go with him on his journey? Very cool, kinda sad to see a kerbal with his eyes closed like that. Probably need to make an urn too. Even when a kerbal dies on eva they just go <<poof!>>. They must be mostly gas or something.
