odd camera pan in SPH

Recommended Posts

This has occurred a few times but it is intermittent and I don't know what situation is needed to force it to happen. So far I've only noticed this effect in the SPH, and its happened in both T1 career and in sandbox.

(0.90, stock, 32bit version).

When panning the camera to look down on the craft the camera suddenly zooms forward (usually right into the craft) and it makes getting a top down view impossible. Panning to look under the craft doesn't seem to suffer this problem and works as expected.

It 'feels' like the camera is hitting an invisible ceiling so I wondered if that was something to do with the smaller t1 sph, but it happens in sandbox in the fullsize sph.

I made a gif (webm) to show the effect;

I know exactly what you are talking about and I can confirm that it is intended. Personally I think it's a little overdone, but it's intentional.

And yeah, it makes working up high a bit of a pain with all the extra panning/zooming.

oh wow, it's intentional! hmmm. that's kinda breaks the principle of least surprise!

So I've since realized you can work around it by zooming out once the camera has plunged you into the center of the craft....and then back in again when you want to return to side on, but that's a horrible feature! In every other 3D environment you expect the camera to pan around a point and if you want to modify that point you have modifier keys (exactly like it use to be!)

Where's the best place for me to go and shout (nicely) about this?

Thanks for the reply Claw! You really are doing a sterling job dealing with all the reports!

Your best bet is to head over to the bug tracker and log some feedback. If you can get others to support your comment, that will also help. Make it constructive and explain why it's a problem. That'll also be better than just a simple complaint.

Thanks for noticing. It's like a little cookie that keeps me going. :D Hopefully I'm doing some good!
