Weird Coords

So, coordinates can define a point or points in 3d space. However, when i put in the coordinates "4, 8, 7, 4" into my head, some strange FOURTH coord number pulls me in some strange direction i can't comprehend!

please note the coords are read inside my head, every number defines an inch in some x y z direction, but can someone tell me what that fourth one means? Wait...I'm imagining some new direction i've never heard of before....OH GOD-$%yT^TuI.lUI(:L
