I was talking with some people in IRC recently about honoring deceased astronauts in-game. The specific point of conversation was the pop-up tips displayed coming from different astronaut personas. However, this could also include named points of interest on the different bodies like how Neil Armstrong is honored on Mun.

One of the people I had in mind was Steve Nagel. We had him at our ham radio convention last year as a guest speaker. He came and talked to the children in the schools as well as giving two forum presentations during the convention. He was a professor at Columbia University here in Missouri and was a very well liked man. I really enjoyed working/talking with him and hearing the enthusiasm he had for space related endeavors.

I think it would be great if we could honor people like this who spent their lives educating and promoting space flight.

I like the idea. There could be an option that enables these pop-ups, so those who only want to play could opt out

But why stop with astronauts? There are lots of other people who contributed a lot and without them we couldn't do half the stuff we do. Namely engineers, scientists

I would like to see something for Laika the Soviet space dog, it is a bit different but still would be nice to make some reference to her. While it would be nice to have them in game I still would like the focus to stay on the game first before branching off.

Voted no.

The Kerbalverse is different, and one of its selling points (for me anyway) is that its not our universe. Bringing too many human references would detract from it I think, and the game would be littered with references to Earth history. Part of the game is forging your own Kerbal history where your little green guys are the first ones out there.

The Armstrong memorial is a one of a kind thing and its ok, but I don't think there should be any more (I explain it as being the result of some rift in space-time that brought this strange thing from another place, but the Kerbals don't actually know its significance).

I also misunderstood the poll at first and thought it meant about having memorials for fallen Kerbals. I think that would be quite nice, something like a wall of names outside at KSC that actually gets bigger and bigger the more Kerbals you kill.

I voted no for the same reason. I don't like it when games that are either set in a fictional universe, or set in a past timeframe make reference to RL stuff or modern stuff. It breaks immersion.
