[0.90] Game sometimes crashes when going to launch pad or runway

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: v0.90.0.705, OS X 10.10.1, 32-bit, Steam

What Happens: Game often crashes when going to the launch pad or the runway.

Mods / Add-Ons: All Stock

Steps to Replicate:

1) Make any launchable vehicle.

2) Click the launch button (e.g. in the VAB).

Result: Sometimes (perhaps 33% of the time) the game crashes and I get dumped back into OS X.

EDIT: Reinstalling the game (but keeping my save created using 0.90) didn't help.

Added link to crash log and noted that reinstalling doesn't help.

You're running out of memory:

KSP(20902,0xa06461d4) malloc: *** mach_vm_map(size=4198400) failed (error code=3)*** error: can't allocate region

*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug

KSP(20902,0xa06461d4) malloc: *** mach_vm_map(size=4194304) failed (error code=3)

*** error: can't allocate region

*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug

Receiving unhandled NULL exception

As a 32-bit application, KSP is limited to at most 3.5 GB of RAM even if your computer has more available, though that number seems to be lower in practice, especially on Yosemite.

As a stock solution, you can lower the texture quality in the Graphics settings. The Active Texture Management mod has a similar effect and caches the textures, which improves load times after the first run (which can take a very long time).
