things getting all splody at the KSC for no apparent reason

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

The 0.90 update happened while I was in the middle of playing a Jool 5 mission in sandbox mode, so I've been finishing the mission with a 0.25 save. While I was making the final approach trying to land my all-stock, low part count space plane Laythe lander back at on the KSC runway, part of the right wing just exploded off in mid air. I actually managed to get the plane on the ground without killing the pilot, but just as I touched down the other wing exploded too, and then the KSP Launchpad, which had nothing on it, had a tremendous explosion off in the distance as well! I don't have access to a screen shot right now, but I'll post one later. Several subsequent attempts produced similar results until finally I was able to get on the ground with nothing spontaneously exploding. The plane was all stock, and had been flown and landed without incident in 0.25 several times before. Anyhow, this definitely seems like some kind of new bug to me...

You're right, it is a bug. Unfortunately it isn't new, and it's really hard to replicate. It seems to generally have to do with taking a spaceplane farther from Kerbin than just LKO, and returning. (Although that's not strictly required either.)

If you can find a way to repeat it reliably, we would all be interested. :D

I had the SAME EXACT thing happening to me just a minute ago

Was landing my spaceplane that had came from LKO from a satellite delivery mission when just a few meters above the ground the right wing exploded for no apparent reason (the log states it crashed into the launch pad ¿I thought I was landing on the airstrip?) destroying the whole craft, killing my 2 pilots and for even more ksp weirdness sake, setting the far away launchpad in flames (¿?)

Seems there arent any workarrounds for this.

Ksp 0.90 is by far the most bugged ksp release I've played

Oh also, I had 2 kerbals turning into debris for no reason while on their external seats :(

You are correct, there aren't any workarounds for this because the cause has been very difficult to determine.

This bug has actually been around a while. Just seems that more people have been encountering it in the last two updates. My suspicion is that more people are encountering it because more people are building space planes since the SP+ and Mk3 updates.

As I said, if you can figure out how to reliably replicate this bug, people would be very excited.

Oh also, I had 2 kerbals turning into debris for no reason while on their external seats :(

This is also an old bug, and I have managed to build a fix for this one. If you aren't opposed to using add-ons, you can download the fix here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/97285-KSP-v0-90-Stock-Bug-Fix-Modules-%28Release-v0-1-6-20-Dec-14%29
