Strut your stuff...

Lolololololololololol

I really think that the game should create a strut connection between the connection points if parts placed on nodes are translated.

The excessive offset won't be nerfed, so that would at least not make it look so silly, IMO.

Dream would be if they actually made offset limits make sense and added a debug option to free it completelly.

Translation makes all sense on surface attached parts, but not for parts placed on nodes.

Need to have finer control. Sometimes I just need to move the part juuuust right to prevent clipping. But off set just make the part floating on the side instead.

Press space to reset, then disable angle snap, this way you can have as much fine tune as you can possibly get.

Angle snap works like snapping to an invisible 3d grid, that's why it moves when you touch it.

It definitely needs some work as it tends to be kind of 'flakey' (when dealing with symmetrical parts, when near each other they act like you're trying to get two north magnetic poles to touch) and frequently doesn't do exactly what you want and definitely doesn't allow fine enough adjustments, but this is seriously one of the best additions to the VAB. Personally I like smushing the LV-909 engines inside their parent fuel tanks so they're just poking out the bottom, and then smushing the fuel tanks up into lander bodies to reduce their vertical profile.

The last guy already mentioned it, but here's the fix to "Fine adjustments."

HIT C (or the icon) to turn off the incremental movement (Called Angle Snap, right next to the Symmetry Mode) during offset adjustments. You will get exact adjustments instead of the horrible large incrememnts you would get with Angle Snap switched on!

It's easy to forget because most sane people wouldn't dare turn off Angle Snap 99% of the time before the introduction of Offset Mode. Enjoy!

I agree. The Offset tool is a miracle. I'm still stuck in a rather low-tech phase of Career Mode, but I can already tell I'll be making liberal use of it. No longer will I have engines sticking way out the bottom of my craft like telephone poles, or OX-STAT panels hovering near the sides of, but not actually looking attached to, my ships (anyone else get frustrated by this?)!

Be careful with that! If you put the surface of the panel below the collision surface of the thing youve mounted to, it may actually fail to function. If the "light" hits the collision box for the lander can before the solar panel, it isn't going to register, and won't help you. Good to do a launchpad spawn and make sure your panels are functioning as advertised before embarking a big mission.

I was thinking something similar to the Part angle display part and editor extension where you can specify how far the snap would go, so instead of 5 unit of distance snap, I can just use 3 for finer control, but still prevent it from being too fine and my twitchy human hand to make mistakes. It helps for precision placement.
