Is KSP a proto-fandom?

A proto-fandom is the early stage of a fandom. right.

So what i'd like to know is, do you all think KSP has it's own fanbase? and will it be as major as the bornies or ferrys?

Oh, I absolutely adore the Ferry Fandom. Their boats are really cool!

With all due seriousness, the definition of a fandom is just a group of people who are fans of a certain thing. In that sense, we're already a fandom, though a small and weak one... a "proto-fandom" as you say. We've got the fanfics, we've got the fan art and videos... heck, there's even Kerbal cosplayers.

Part of me wishes that there were more people in this little group, but a larger part of me doesn't want this to go the way of some other fandoms, notably the Whovians and the Bronies. While the majority of those fandoms' populations are happy enough watching the episodes at home and maybe commenting on forums every once in a while, there are a few people who take every possible opportunity to mash their beliefs in peoples' faces. These people are the ones that are most known in the fandom, for obvious reasons, and they generate a lot of bad press. I don't want KSP going in that direction.

On topic, I doubt a fandom can be created. There are a lot more popular things out there, yet no fandoms were made.

Bronies and furries fandoms have underlying psychological and sociological causes behind them. KSP has absolutely no such advantages and personally, I find that to be really good. I wouldn't want a fandom to be made.

In case this escalates, don't take this too far. I personally don't understand fandoms, but bashing them isn't the right way to go about stating your opinions. Luckily, this thread HASN'T devolved to that. Just being pre-emptive.

We're a fandom, but we tend to be (relatively) intellectual, so we're more civil. Unless we're provoked
