Game will not launch (Steam, Windows XP)

I'm running the Steam version of KSP on Windows XP, and seemingly nothing happens when I attempt to launch the game. Steam registers that the game has launched, and the task manager shows KSP.exe in the process list, but other than that it's like nothing has happened.

So far I've tried:

Uninstalling and re-installing.

Validating the integrity of the game cache through steam.

Deleting the KSP folder after uninstalling.

Launching KSP from the folder.

Launching the Launcher from the KSP folder.

Shutting off all other running applications.

Disabling firewalls and antivirus.

Attempting to force windowed mode from outside the game.

The last time that KSP has worked for me was around version 0.23, and I had decided to give it another spin on seeing that it had recently entered Beta... only to run into this. So far I haven't found anything on the internet to resolve the problem (If anyone had the same problem as I have at one point, then chances are the posts have been lost to time.), so I'm at a bit of a loss.
