Torque Applied to Aircraft with Winglets

Recommended Posts

Computer: Windows 7, using 32bit KSP

KSP Version: Latest 0.9 Beta

Mods Installed:

Note: All mods were newly downloaded and installed (as mentioned) on December 30th, and the problem still persists. All mods are the newest available version (1 or 2 mods are the newest "unofficial fixes").

Note1: It looks pretty cluttered, but the majority of these mods were installed (and required) by B9 Aerospace, and Intersteller (which is the newest version from the Boris-Intersteller thread for 0.90 versions)

The Problem:

Too Long / Didn't Read: Plane aquires torque with any wing placement besides a 90 degree placement to fuselage. Plane immediately turns on takeoff. This is NOT due to landing gears, or the back of the plane lifting off first. Torque is visibly added (via RCS BuildAid) with the most basic of designs, without any gear placement, intake placement, etc (as demonstrated in screenshots below). Even on planes with "green" stability derivatives (at all speeds from mach .35 -> mach 5, at all angles from 0 0 -> 40 degrees) I immediately turn on the runway. Not a simple veering, but an immediate, sharp turn.

I have the patience to read more than one small paragraph:

Hi there,

I have looked around and tried all the regular troubleshooting and fixes, and cannot seem to wrap my head around what is causing this bug, or if I am just being stupid.

When designing any sort of SSTO, as soon as I add any vertical (or quasi-vertical) winglet, stabilizer, or wingtip (any degree rotation) it puts torque in one direction on the craft. I have attached some screenshots to help illustrate the problem (using RCS Build Aid to show applied torque).

Putting horizontal wings does not affect torque at all. Originally I thought it was the engines not producing identical values but after some playing around I found I can apply the engines (when no wings are present) and obtain 0.000 kNm of torque. Wings, gears, intakes, etc all add torque in only one direction.

Last night I tried a completely clean install, and proceeded to install all my regular mods with up-to-date versions (as of Dec 30, 2014). It took forever with ATM, but it started up and the issue persisted (by completely clean, I mean mods as well as all savefiles, non-squad ships, etc). All mods have been installed following included "ReadMe" files. This means merging any mod that comes with a GameData folder, or extracting directly to the GameData folder if one is not present in the mod. All files are merged, and replaced as required.

I apologize if this is present in the support section, but I have tried searching a number of parameters and came up dry. I know users usually say this, but I tried searching "torque", "veering", "torque bug", "COT", and everything I could think of. I have also perused the threads of any mods I thought may be causing the issue to see if it was persistant for anyone else.

I figure a log file wouldn't help with solving this issue as no errors are produced, no crashes occur. I can upload the log file if required by anyone for troubleshooting purposes, please just ask.

No craft files are included as this problem persists on ALL designed planes, from stock parts to B9 parts.

Edit 1 (Additional Information): I have been methodically removing mods, starting game, and seeing if the problem persists. If the issue persists, I reinstall the deleted mod. I have tried removing RemoteTech, Better Buoyancy, Kerbal Joint Reinforcement, Procedural Wings, KW Rocketry, Tweakable Everything, Tweakscale. I have also tried reinstalling B9 Aero, FAR, and Intersteller. So far, no results. Problem still persists on all craft, stock crafts, stock parts, custom crafts, B9 parts, etc. The tiniest of winglets produces a noticable amount of torque that makes taking off impossible, let alone landing.

I dont use nearly as many mods as you do but i see you have one mod that may be triggering your problem, FAR.

This mod changes the atmosphere to an aproximation of of the earth's atmosphere. maybe thats causing it.

I appreciate the swift reply;

I have been using FAR since early .25, and it has never caused this specific issue. I have also flown in 0.90, with FAR, without issue when 0.9 was first released. I know I somehow triggered the issue, and I am reasonably confident it is not a FAR related issue. I require FAR or NEAR for B9 to work.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
