research engine upgrades

Hello I have just came up with an idea to make career and science mode a little bit more fun(or whatever it's equivalent is) anyway my idea is to have a lb option in the difficulty menu that says;

'Allow part upgrades using science' or something like that.

Here's the big bit.

Take the LV-T30.

at the start of the game it's stats could look like this.

Thrust - 100kN

ISP - 300 ASL 320 in vac

Impact tolerance (IT) - 1m/s

Then after the first upgrade

Thrust - 180kN

ISP - 320 ASL 350 in vac

IT - 3m/s

Upgrade takes 7 kerbin days to complete

After upgrade No.3

Thrust -230kN

ISP - 370 ASL 390 in vac

IT - 6m/s

Upgrade takes 21 kerbin days

These three upgrade stats could be called;

Thrust - power

ISP - efficiency

IT - durability

And when you decide to upgrade you have 4 options;

1.upgrade power = to level 2 - 750 funds, to level 3 - 2,000 funds

2.upgrade efficiency = to level 2 - 10 science, to level 3 - 30 science

3.upgrade durability = this stats purchase price will depend on your rep

at 0 rep - 500 funds at a 50% rate per upgrade level

At 50 rep - 250 funds at a 25% rate per upgrade level

4. Upgrade all - very inefficient. - L2 = 1,500 funds and 15 science - L3 = 2,750 funds and 40 science

Option 4 is least economic as it costs more due to you overworking your kerbal scientists and engineers.

Wouldn't it be better to have more engines, like an A-4 Engine analog, or some other engine? That way you'd get better tech like the LV-T 30s but later in the tech tree.
